Actors on the Street: What Are You Doing to Combat High Gas Prices?

"I'm being picky about the roles I self-submit for, whereas before I would self-submit for just about everything. The jobs gotta pay. I recently drove almost 100 miles roundtrip to work on The Sarah Silverman [Program]. Thank God I'm union, or the mileage wouldn't have been covered. I got about $20 to cover gas for that. Besides that, I'm staying home a lot more, reading and studying more about acting and the biz -- what I should be doing anyway."

"Unfortunately, L.A. has a lot to learn from mass-transit systems of other large cities, and the sprawl of a boom era is increasingly impractical. Expansion of our metro system would be a good start. As it is, I only use my car for jobs and auditions. If I can schedule multiple things (e.g., a fitting and an audition) into one trip, even better."

"I am spending more and more time on my computer putting PR pitches together for some projects that I am in that are screening, premiering, going to festivals, or have upcoming DVD distribution. I am also always walking or Rollerblading in my neighborhood to do most of my errands. When I need to go somewhere that requires driving, I am for sure combining tasks. When I have an audition, I try to see a friend to meet up and network over lunch or coffee, run an errand, etc."
